Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka - June

Looking for a different type of adventure?

Want to visit India but looking for a relaxing Bali feel?

Look no further than Sri Lanka.

We suggest starting your adventure in the beautiful city of Colombo. Take the drive to your coastal front hotel. Enjoy the amazing view of the Indian Ocean, even watch as the locals take the train. Take a short Tuk Tuk ride from there to find some local shopping. Remember to barter, they will negotiate pricing.

The next day or two we recommend visiting the Dambulla Caves. Experience these beautiful wonders carved into stone in the mountain. For the more adventuresome, climb to the top of Sigiriya (aka Lions Head Fortress). This is a highly recommended experience. The long and treacherous climb isn’t for the faint of heart but the view from the top is like NO OTHER.

Looking for a more local touch? A MUST DO is the village of Kayanwala. From the mainland you take a small canoe to your destination. Here you will experience local cuisine like only the villagers make. Explore the home-grown spices, experience their primitive cooking utensils but be careful, their knives are sharp!

A very fun experience in Sri Lanka is taking the train from Kandy on the lower part of the island to Nuwara Ellya up in the mountains. Many tourists take this winding ride while taking pictures and hanging out the side. Make sure to pack a pair of pants and a jacket because it is quite cold once you reach the top.

Now the most important experiences a traveller must take in when travelling to Sri Lanka is taking a safari. In Udawalawe you can check out the biggest elephants in the world. The Sri Lanka Elephant.

When packing if you plan to see temples bring flip flops for easy on and off, and remember to cover up your shoulders and your knees when entering or they will deny you.
