Ireland

Ireland - March

Also known as “The Emerald Isle,” Ireland is Europe’s most westerly country.  Amazing for hiking, road-trips and sightseeing. Ireland is known for its physical beauty and is a top destination for 2020. With St. Patrick’s Day coming up, it is only right to highlight the country where it originates from.

The number one reason to visit Ireland is for the stunning natural wonders such as the Cliffs of Moher and the Giant’s Causeway, which both draw serious crowds to Ireland. The Cliffs of Moher is Ireland’s most famous attraction while the Irish see the Giant’s Causeway as an 8th Wonder of the World.

While in Ireland, we highly recommend to visit the most northern part of the island of Ireland, it is absolutely beautiful and proves that from top to bottom, Ireland is full of beauty. As you may or may not know, Dublin is known for its perfected “Guinness beer”. Spend an afternoon at the Guinness Storehouse and learn how to pour the perfect Guinness. Other amazing highlights in Ireland include a visit to Ireland’s most beautiful park, Killarney National Park. Another must-do attraction is a visit to the world-famous Blarney Stone where people come from all over the world to kiss it upside down to gain the gift of eloquence and persuasiveness. Sounds odd, but a highlight for many!

Keep in mind that travel between April and June as well as September and October are the best times to go. Ireland’s weather is not promising so it’s always best to pack for warm to cool temperatures.

Ideally, you should plan to spend around 10 days in Ireland in order to hit the main highlights including Dublin, the Cliffs or Moher and Northern Ireland. If you give yourself 10 days you should expect to be quite busy with an action-packed itinerary.  If you are able to expand your itinerary, you could also plan to visit other nearby areas within the United Kingdom such as Scotland and England.

Royal Irish Tours specialize in wonderful itineraries that bring you to all the Irish highlights and get you up close and personal. They will give you an authentic Irish experience.

Santorini, Greece

Santorini, Greece - February

With Valentine’s Day in the midst of this month it is only right to highlight one of the top romantic destinations in the world – Santorini, Greece. Santorini is a safe place to visit as a tourist and so is Greece as a whole. The famous white and blue washed island is absolutely picturesque & is a perfect place to visit with your special someone whether the occasion be a honeymoon, anniversary or even a destination you are ready to mark off your bucket list. Filled with absolutely stunning landscapes, architecture, volcanoes, and beaches.

Keep in mind that travel between late April and early November is the best time to go. The weather is warm and there is little rain. The months of December to March are the coolest months to visit.

While in Santorini, it is highly recommended to watch the Sunrise at Perissa Beach. Not many things are worth getting up so early for but this is an exception you would not regret.

Taking a stroll through the city alleys can be an amazing experience as you will see the traditional architecture of Santorini. The streets are narrow and it is almost impossible to turn a corner without taking a picture.

Santorini is considered a top wine destination in Europe. The flavor of wine here is affected by the island’s volcano debris. A winery tour is a must-do activity for anyone who loves wine!

There is a volcano of Santorini and yes, it’s amazing! You can either do an escorted hike or independently hike up this volcano. While here, you can also take advantage of the natural hot springs that are in the area.

Ancient Akrotiri is an archeological site that was discovered in the 1800’s. This city was destroyed by a massive volcanic eruption. Today, tourists can take tours to explore this ancient city that used to exist.

Ideally, you should plan to spend around 10 days in Santorini. This will give you time to see the sights and enjoy the island without feeling any sense of rush. If you are also interested in visiting the other Greek Islands such as Mykonos, Paros, Naxos, you could consider doing an island hop with Santorini as one of your stops- giving you a taste of the Greek Cyclades.

Iceland

Iceland - January

Iceland is in the midst of an unprecedented tourist boom &  people visit the island for its stunning natural beauty during all seasons.   There is a reason some people call it “Planet Iceland”.   Stunning landscapes, mountains, geysers, geothermal pools, volcanoes, waterfalls, black sand beaches, icebergs- and so much more.

You can get a taste of Iceland by booking a basic package for a minimum of 3 nights which include your hotel stay, airport transfers, Golden Circle tour and several other add on options if you prefer.

Keep in mind that travel during winter months gives you as little as 4 hours of daylight depending on when you travel.   Summer gives you much more daylight – right up to golfing  at midnight!

The famous Blue Lagoon is popular for your first stop after an overnight flight and will avoid crowds.   Soak in the warm geothermal pools and get ready to start your trip off right.   Others prefer to book this package before flying back home.   The Blue Lagoon is situated half way from the airport to Reykjavik so it’s cost efficient to choose either one.

The Ring Road is the way to see much more of Iceland.   This route circles the whole country.   You can pre-book a packaged tour or do it yourself with a self-drive tour.   This tour is offered during the winter months, however, due to the unpredictable weather, roads can be closed and tours cancelled.   You need time to be flexible.

During summer months your options increase, obviously with longer days and better weather.

Don’t forget to give yourself free time for Reykjavik.   The city offers museums, art galleries, wonderful dining options, coffee shops, street food and plenty of bars.   It’s easy to get around by foot or a Hop On Hop Off bus pass.

Iceland is safe, everyone speaks English, tap water is potable, pretty much a cashless society.  Available through Jade Tours, G Adventures, Collette, Trafalgar and many others.
